Medical Confidentiality

Increasingly the public and job applicants are concerned about the collection and holding of their own personal information by outside agencies. Even though pre-employment medical assessments are requested by an employer, the doctor is still required to respect the medical confidentiality of the applicant or patient. The employer needs to know about the applicant's ability to complete the inherent requirements of the position and what modifications or restrictions are necessary to accommodate any disabilities. Skilled medical practitioners should be able to convey such information without breaching medical confidentiality in the correct procedural framework.
